Market Statistics for Vista for Week of Sept. 28th

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

In Vista this week, the Market Action Index has been climbing (meaning a better market for Sellers) and the average days on the market are going down. All of this gives a positive short-term outlook for the Vista market.

For several weeks in Vista, home sales have been exceeding new inventory. Until this inventory is consumed, prices will not yet move higher. But San Diego has recorded three months of home price increases, and if this supply and demand trend continues, prices may start to move up.

Prices in the three Vista zip codes are bouncing around so are not giving any steady signs yet. If you are a homeowner in Vista, watch the inventory and home sales. Signs are good for a recovery!

Reduced Bus Service a Possibility in San Diego’s North County

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

If you live in Oceanside, Vista, or Carlsbad, and you depend on the buses, you may be facing some reduced bus service soon. Because of some severe drops in state funding, the North County Transit District staff is proposing to cut back service to eight bus routes in San Diego’s North County.

The Transit Board will consider the proposal for cutbacks at their meeting in Oceanside next Tuesday, Sept. 1st. The Board of Directors will vote on the route recommendations on September 17th.

The District managers are proposing to reduce weekday or weekend service on some routes and modifying other routes. North County Transit has already made layoffs, raised fares, and is looking into outsourcing some bus operations. The same agency also runs the Sprinter light-rail system operating out of Oceanside.

Stay tuned for the outcome of these proposals. The changes would be implemented in January and would affect routes in Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, and other cities in North County.

Vista Sheriff’s Department Meets with Neighbors about Safety

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

On Aug. 5th, the Vista Sherrif’s Department hosted a meeting at Olive Elementary School to inform neighbors about crimes taking place in the neighborhood. The Automated Regional Justice Information System which compiles crime information throughout San Diego County showed that at least 563 incidents were reported within a mile of Olive Elementary School between Jan. 1st and July 31st of this year.

The Sherrif’s Department hosted the meeting to urge neighborhood residents to fight back by joining together and looking out for each other. The Deputies asked the comunity to create a neighborhood watch team, and the residents responded very positively.

Most of the residents attending the meeting said that they had no idea about the number of crimes taking place in their neighborhood. Now that they were aware, they would band together to do something about it. The Deputies also said that lack of community knowledge is more common today than in the past when neighbors routinely shared information and gossip.

By the end of the meeting, people were starting to talk together to form a watch group. This neighborhood meeting is just one more example of why Vista is such a good area to live in People come together and care about where they live and work and will work together to create safe areas to live in.

Moonlight Amphitheater in Vista Gets Makeover

Friday, July 31st, 2009

If you are a Vista resident or if you are a buyer interested in buying property in Vista, you are probably familiar with the Moonlight Theater. For many years, the Moonlight Theater has been a wonderful Vista community resource, providing Vista residents with the chance to sit outdoors, bring a picnic, and enjoy presentations of musicals such as “42nd Street” and “Les Miserables.”

Now the Moonlight Theater has completely expanded its home behind the scenes. Audiences don’t see a big differrence, but what used to be a concert shell around an outdoor stage is now a full theater with air conditioning, bathrooms, dressing rooms, and rehearsal rooms.

Set installations and lighting have also been modernized. People used to have to roll set pieces on and off the stage; now electrical lifts take things on and off in all directions. And the new improved stage allows Moonlight personnel to use all of the sets necessary to stage a large production, not just part of them.

The Moonlight Theater is just one more reason you should consider buying real estate in Vista. Vista is a vibrant community, offering something for everyone — restaurants, shopping, theater, and even properties for horses.
